In spiritual traditions this is understood through karma:\nwhat we repeatedly think, intend, and do shapes the conditions we\nwill eventually meet, whether in this life or, according to\ntraditions that accept rebirth, in lives to come.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis is why vice is so dangerous. It\ncan destroy precisely what we are trying to obtain.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003ePride is a simple example. A proud\nperson wants respect, importance, control, and status, yet arrogance,\ncontempt, abuse of authority, and refusal to recognize one's own\nfaults create the causes for loss of respect and humiliation. The\nperson is striving upward while planting the seeds of a fall. The\nsame principle applies to the other sins: greed can create causes of\ndeprivation, lust of broken trust and separation, envy of misery and\nalienation, gluttony of insatiability, wrath of conflict and\nsuffering, and sloth of wasted opportunity and decline. The sin\npromises something desirable while quietly creating conditions for\nits opposite.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis is why they are called \u003cstrong\u003edeadly\u003c\/strong\u003e.\nThe idea is not limited to Christianity. Whether we call them sins,\npoisons, vices, destructive tendencies, or manifestations of\nignorance, the principle is universal: harmful states of mind lead to\nharmful actions, and harmful actions create consequences for\nourselves and others. They are “deadly” because, when cultivated\nrather than corrected, they progressively damage our character, our\nrelationships, our spiritual condition, and the course of our lives.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis is especially important in\nmodern spirituality, where people often concentrate almost entirely\non acquisition. They want manifestation, abundance, attraction,\npsychic sensitivity, protection, spiritual abilities, influence,\ninitiations, and power. Yet no spiritual technique abolishes cause\nand effect. You cannot continuously create the karma of loss,\nbetrayal, humiliation, conflict, or deprivation and then expect\nanother field, prayer, ritual, or energetic method to erase the\nconsequences while you continue behaving in exactly the same way.\nSpiritual development without purification can actually make matters\nworse, because greater power placed in the hands of pride, greed,\nlust, or wrath simply gives those tendencies more power with which to\noperate.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThere is also a more serious\nspiritual dimension. Within the spiritual understanding behind these\nfields, vice creates openings through which demonic and parasitic\nforces can establish contact. These forces do not gain genuine access\nwhere there is no corresponding opening. This is why saints and\nbeings of great purity are traditionally considered impossible to\naffect through ordinary sorcery or demonic interference: there is\nnothing compatible for the influence to grasp.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBut where hatred, greed, compulsive\nlust, envy, arrogance, or similar states are repeatedly cultivated, a\npoint of contact exists. The demon does not need to manufacture the\nvice—it uses the vice already present. Once that connection is\nestablished, the influence can strengthen the same thoughts and\nemotions that opened the door in the first place. What began as your\nown anger becomes easier to inflame. Pride becomes harder to\nquestion. Desire becomes more obsessive. Envy becomes more poisonous.\nEventually the influence can become difficult to distinguish from\none's own thinking because it speaks through tendencies that already\nfeel familiar.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis is why someone may perform\npowerful protection practices, prayers, cleansings, cord removals, or\nenergetic work and nevertheless find the same problem returning. You\nmay remove the entity while leaving its doorway intact. If the\ncorresponding vice is continually recreated, the connection can be\nrecreated as well. There is little sense in throwing an intruder out\nwhile repeatedly unlocking the same door.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003ePurification is therefore itself a\nform of protection. The deeper protection is not merely pushing\nhostile forces away; it is removing from ourselves the qualities\nthrough which they can repeatedly obtain a foothold.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis is also why the Seven Deadly\nSins Removal Fields are not simply another version of virtue fields.\nA virtue field strengthens a desirable quality. A removal field\naddresses the distortion that obstructs it. Cultivating humility is\nvaluable, but if deep pride remains untouched, it can reappear the\nmoment the ego is challenged. Strengthening generosity is valuable,\nbut it does not automatically remove the fear and possessiveness\nunderneath greed. One cultivates the medicine; the other works to\nremove the poison.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe same clarity is needed around the\nmodern idea of \u003cstrong\u003eshadow integration\u003c\/strong\u003e. Genuine shadow\nwork means recognizing what we have denied or repressed. It means\nbeing able to admit, “Yes, there is jealousy here. There is anger\nhere. There is selfishness here,” without hiding behind a spiritual\npersona. But recognition is not permission. Integration does not mean\ndeclaring every destructive impulse sacred because it is “part of\nmy authentic self.”\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eCruelty does not become healthy\nbecause we call it shadow. Manipulation does not become spiritual\nbecause we have discovered its childhood origin. Envy does not\ndeserve a permanent seat at the table merely because we have learned\nto accept that it exists.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eReal integration makes us \u003cstrong\u003emore\naccountable\u003c\/strong\u003e, not less. We recognize what is present\nprecisely so that it no longer controls us unconsciously. We recover\nthe strength, vitality, or unmet need hidden beneath the distortion\nwhile abandoning the harmful behavior itself.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThat is ultimately why these seven\nfields were created. Spiritual development is not only about\nacquiring more abilities, more energy, more manifestations, or more\nexperiences. Sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is stop\ncreating the causes that destroy what you are asking for.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIf you want blessings, become\ncompatible with blessings. If you want protection, stop keeping doors\nopen to what you want protection from.
